چکیده

Methods 79 children with HLHS in Fontan circulation (6.3±3.2 years) and 18 controls (6.8±2.4 years) underwent 3.0 Tesla cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. Gradient-echo cine and phase-contrast imaging was applied to measure cross-sectional areas, distensibility and pulse wave velocity (PWV) of the entire thoracic aorta, particularly the DAo. Cross-sectional areas were compared with normal values for healthy children.

Frequent Dilatation of the Descending Aorta in Children With Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome Relates to Decreased Aortic Arch Elasticity.

BACKGROUND Patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome after a Norwood operation show dilatation and reduced distensibility of the reconstructed proximal aorta. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and angiographic examinations indicate that the native descending aorta (DAo) is also dilated, but this has not been studied in detail. METHODS AND RESULTS Seventy-nine children with hypoplas...

Aortopathy in Congenital Heart Disease in Adults: Aortic Dilatation with Decreased Aortic Elasticity that Impacts Negatively on Left Ventricular Function

Bicuspid aortic valve and/or coarctation of the aorta are consistently associated with ascending aortic and para-coarctation medial abnormalities. Medial abnormalities in the ascending aorta are prevalent in other types of patients with a variety of forms congenital heart disease (CHD), such as single ventricle, persistent truncus arteriosus, transposition of the great arteries, hypoplastic lef...

Detection of persistent ductus in hypoplastic left heart syndrome by contrast echocardiography.

A patient with hypoplastic left heart syndrome was studied using contrast echocardiography after peripheral venous injection of dextrose. The combination of the parasternal and suprasternal approach allowed for identification of the right ventricular cavity, excluded the presence of right-to-left intracardiac shunts, and established normal ventriculoarterial connections. From the abdominal appr...

Translocation of the Aortic Arch with Norwood Procedure for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome Variant with Circumflex Retroesophageal Aortic Arch

Retroesophageal aortic arch, in which the aortic arch crosses the midline behind the esophagus to the contralateral side, is a rare form of vascular anomaly. The complete form may cause symptoms by compressing the esophagus or the trachea and need a surgical intervention. We report a rare case of a hypoplastic left heart syndrome variant with the left retroesophageal circumflex aortic arch in w...

Stenosis of a Reconstructed Aorta Caused a Paradoxical Diastolic Pressure Gradient After Norwood Operation

An infant with hypoplastic left heart syndrome showed paroxysmal episodes of bradycardia, hypotension, and hypoxemia upon crying after modified Norwood operation. Echocardiography showed decreased right ventricular ejection with grade III tricuspid regurgitation, a markedly enlarged aortic arch, and accelerated blood flow distal to the enlarged aorta. Aortography demonstrated an aneurysmal neo-...
